Europe's top clubs are rumoured to be eyeing a move for Argentinian startlet Fernando Cavenaghi. The pacy striker is currently plying his trade in Russia for Spartak Moscow but the former River Plate hotshot is rumoured to be ready to parade his skills elsewhere as he seeks to secure a place in the World Cup squad. Liverpool could be in for the deadly finisher as they let go of Djibril Cisse, Florent Sinama Pongolle and Anthony Le Tallec in the January transfer window.

Of course, Rafa Benitez is keeping his cards close to his chest and some have argued that the price tag in excess of 10 million pounds would put off the Spanish tactician. However, the sale of 3 strikers could raise the required cash for this precocious talent. Cisse is headed for Marseille while Pongolle is set to join him in France. Le Tallec is expected to move permanently to Sunderland in a deal which could involve Sunderland's young midfielder Dean Whitehead.

Elsewhere, Jerzy Dudek is headed for Benfica as Liverpool make a move for Simao Sabrosa while Chris Kirkland should complete a move to West Brom. Josemi is headed back to Spain while Neil Mellor is expected to leave as well. Liverpool have missed out on highly rated Dutch defender Ron Vlaar who has agreed a deal with Tottenham, who are looking to be major title contenders this season. A move for Daniel Agger is also uncertain as Brondby hope to hang on to their star defender.

It looks to be a busy January for Liverpool. Be prepared for a transfer deadline scramble...again.
