Garcia puzzled by scoring drought

Mar 14 2006

By Adrian Curtis, Daily Post

LUIS GARCIA is finding it difficult to explain his side's struggles to score goals.

The Spaniard scored Liverpool's goal on Sunday as the strikers continued their Premiership drought of 2006.

And midfielder Garcia said: "Well we don't know because we are having a lot of chances. Against Charlton and Manchester City we had a lot of chances and I don't know why sometimes it happens, you are playing well doing the right things, but you don't score maybe the goals you need.

"We are not scoring a lot of goals, but the problem is when you don't win games then you think why are you not scoring?

"Winning 1-0 is enough for three points then when you are not winning people keep thinking what's happening with the strikers?

"We had 10 games in a row winning and no-one was thinking we weren't scoring goals. We were scoring one or two goals each game which is not a lot, but we didn't concede a lot do we didn't think about our lack of scoring goals.

"We are not conceding a lot of goals, I now think we are doing really well in defence and maybe not as good in attack.

"When we are on the pitch each one has in his own mind one thing - the striker is to score goals and the defenders is not to concede."

The Spaniard insists Liverpool can still finish on a high despite the workload required of them this season.

"No I have never played 50 games by mid-March and yes it is a lot," added Garcia.

Refereeing system frustrates Benitez Mar 14 2006 By David Prior Daily Post Staff RAFAEL BENITEZ has admitted his frustration at the refereeing system that will keep Xabi Alonso out of tomorrow's crucial clash against Fulham...

"Of course when you play a lot of games you are a bit tired sometimes when things are not going well, your mind goes down, your legs are not doing things you want sometimes and you go down a little bit and it is important that most people are on a good level.

"It is important for us to be in the top four and we are still in the FA Cup and it is a good year for us, it's not bad," he added.
