I always found the man (Best) to be a complete charmer, as well as being witty and above the average footballer, not only because of the skill, but just in all round personality.

I would have a million George Bests for all of the (professional footballing) wankers that hit the press nowadays for "roasting" barely pubescent wannabeees in gangs of 4 or more in up market hotel rooms in front of their gloating "friends." Only to be declared as rapists for the delight of the tabloid press and Robert Maxwells of this world.

Best was a real man who got kicked from one end of the country to the other by people with less talent than his socks, he played the game like a genius, laughed at the world, slept with the most gorgeous women on the planet, and got pissed whenever he felt like it. He had warmth wit and charm and he was every mans dream of who they would love to be. Every woman who loved him spoke well of him afterwards, every player (including Bobby Charlton who hated him - allegedly) amired and loved him as a person and fans of all teams applauded him off the pitch after he had exposed their teams and players as donkeys.

Who - just tell me who - as a red blooded heteroloveual male would not have given a kidney to have lived the life of George Best, made it to 60 (ish) and shuffled off this mortal coil, with the consultant who tried to keep him alive despite his hedonistic and self destructive lifestyle, eulogising him, through his tears?

For me - here's a toast to George Best - you lucky, lucky bastard. You had everything you ever wanted in life. Everything except stainless steel kidneys. Thank you for being the ideal of everything I ever wanted to be.

I'll probably live til I'm 100, free of talent, controversy, Miss Worlds and a life richer than croesus.

God I hate George Best.
