As you've already been told Danny boy, the treaty of 1921 establishing the state of Northern Ireland as a constituent part of the United Kingdom was negotiated and signed by the British Government ***and*** the Irish treaty delegation, made up of members of Sinn Fein-IRA. Thus your Unionist legitimacy as a part of the United Kingdom rests upon the signatures of such men as Michael Collins, member of the Sinn Fein executive and main advocate of the guerilla-style "flying column" tactics used to great effect in the War of Independence; Eamonn Duggan Director of IRA intelligence; Robert Barton member of the British ascendancy-turned-Sinn Fein MP for Wicklow; and Arthur Griffith, founder of Sinn Fein. Most or all of these men were arrested for their violent republicanism but eventually set free, and became, as I say, the chief negotiators on the Irish side for the Treaty of 1921, establishing your little corner of Ireland as a part of the UK. Thus you have Sinn Fein-IRA to thank for your status today as a part of the UK. Not that I take much interest in these things; just that you should know your history a little better.

Good luck to you and God save whoever it is you have on your bedroom wall.
