In all liklehood, the jump between species (Chimp to Human) was caused by hunters eating the flesh of infected Monkey's. And this theory is hardly new or surprising. It's long been thought that this was how the SICcpz-HIV virus crossed over into humans and mutated. Again, FYI, you probably don't know this, but the two major strains of HIV are; HIV-1 and HIV-2. HIV-2 is normally found in Africa. As opposed to HIV-1, HIV-2 takes longer to destroy the T-cells.

What this "discovery" means is that there will now be a chance to study in more depth the difference in the two viruses; for example, why do chimps seem to be unaffected by SIV, while in humans (who share 99.94% DNA)the HIV virus causes the immune system to fail.
