Absolutely, and we have the perfect blueprint for such an action. Stroll in to be greeted by the people who will regard us, not as invaders ,but saviours. Overthrow the leaders. Find and destroy all the mbutt of nuclear weapons and the capability of making the same. Train an effective army and west loving police force. Establish a working democratic government, before sailing away leaving the tearful, grateful population waving from the shore.

And, if this is a non starter because they don't like being invaded. If the resentment escalates with the violence almost out of control. If the fact ( long understood by others ) that this feudal, faction ridden, gun crazy, potentially religion crazed society will never become a working democracy makes Bush face reality, we can always bodge up some sort of administration and bugger off as quickly as possible leaving behind a civil war which will make the regime we 'saved' the Iraqis from seem like Disney Land.

On the other hand we might stop to think that Iran is far less likely to prove as successful as our venture in Iraq undoubtedly is. We might decide to invest similar billions and effort towards bringing relief to Palestine and pressure on the extremists there and in Israel and start to make real progress in the single conflict and issue which unites the whole of the middle east and creates most of the dislike of the West.
