As the post I initially replied to had tones of supporting Thatcher and her methods, why aren't all farmers made to compete in the 'free market' she championed? (Which is not what the initial post was arguing for, instead it was just the French who should be left to fend for themselves.)
Just because the French are more vocal in protecting this privileged position for their farmers in the EU doesn't mean xenophobic rants need to be aimed at them.
If any Government in this country had given a poo about any of our industries over the past 2 decades would that have been such an evil thing?
I am not in favour of the EU in it's current form but I do not lay the blame at stereotypes of nations, I do not blame member states from using the systems in place to their 'advantage'.
The reality of the whole subject is that the UK could not maintain itself outside of the EU, it would eventually have to rejoin or join another economic union.
We either pay for membership or we pay for increased prices for products and reduced wages as companies aim to maximise profits...
