Simple fact is the idiot Neill went to ground, thinking Grosso was going to keep running in a straight line at the goalkeeper, something every player does when he gets into the box. But Grosso having more than half a brain saw what was coming and decided to flick the ball to one side and possibly pleased with this because it meant Grosso tripped over Neill who was lying on the ground at this stage waiting for the ball to show up somewhere else. The referee who was right beside the action correctly interpreted it however as a foul since the striker bearing down on goal was obstructed from making progress by the player lying on the ground.
