Dirk Kuyt has reiterated his desire to leave Feyenoord for the Premiership and, having expressed a willingness to join Newcastle, has now urged Liverpool to revive their long-standing interest in him. The 25-year-old was talked out of moving to an English club last summer not least by the Holland coach Marco van Basten, who was anxious that the striker remain something of an unknown quantity before the World Cup finals. However, after another successful season in the Dutch league brought 22 goals - he has scored 71 in 101 league games for the club - he is keen to move on.

"Several clubs have expressed an interest but it is now down to Feyenoord," Kuyt is reported to have told journalists at the Dutch national side's training camp.

"The Feyenoord chairman Jorien van den Herik has informed me of an approach from Liverpool, but it is out of my hands. I am happy at Feyenoord but I would like to play in the Premier League. Last year it was close to happening so, for now, I'd prefer to concentrate on the World Cup."

Liverpool inquired as to his availability a year ago, but officials at Anfield insist privately that they have yet to contact the Rotterdam club this time around. However, he does feature on a list of potential signings drawn up by Rafael Ben'tez.

Well done for your amazing insight into the pandemic that is HIV-AIDS. Your parents must so proud of the ignorant bigot they have brought forth into the world. FYI, in the UK...

Newcastle have approached Feyenoord in the past month as they seek to replace Alan Shearer. "He is certainly one of several players we are looking at and I am looking forward to seeing him in Germany," said the Newcastle manager Glenn Roeder.

Liverpool fear they may be priced out of a move for Sevilla's Daniel Alves, with the Uefa Cup winners understood to be seeking about £20m for the Brazilian as they attempt to flush out interest from Barcelona for the Brazilian right-back."
