This is the US. There has been zero news about world soccer reaching this country.

========================================== Finally, I see this play again for the first time in 20 years. England striker Gary Lineker failed to put his head on an easy point blank header to tie this World Cup 1986 quarterfinal match. Had Lineker scored here, it would have tied the match and likely put the match into overtime.
It is clear that the actions of the Argentine defender were incidental, since the ball crosses his path after it crosses the path of Lineker. It is clear here that Lineker simply does not make the sort of effort one would expect from a striker representing the main goalscoring threat for his country with around 8 minutes left to tie the match, or have his country knocked out of the World Cup 1986 tournament.
A few minutes earlier, John Barnes, who had been substituted in for just the last 15 minutes of the match, served up his 1st perfect cross, which Lineker headed in to bring England close, 2-1.
Why did Lineker not make his best effort to make contact with this 2nd perfect cross by John Barnes, which would have tied the match ? Lineker and that ball should have wound up in the back of the net.
And the obvious 2nd question is why was John Barnes not selected to play the whole match ? I am also interested to know why these commentators state that Barnes had not even played any soccer since the end of the previous season. As Maradona showed in this match, being able to beat a man and then pbutt the ball accurately or shoot, is a very important skill to have on a soccer team.
Here the 2 UK commentators talk about the quality of play of Lineker and the prospects of Barnes being introduced into the match, for the Audio.
