Simon after the what we
For me the jury is still out but I see no sense in making a hasty decision on a player. He is *20* and has the potential to become a very good player. The current financial cost of keeping him is trivial as he is, probably, on a low wage and we paid a low fee to acquire him. If we do sell him in 1-2 years time we will, more than likely, recoup most of what we have currently invested in him. I believe there were a number of clubs interested in taking him on loan. Incidentally, I thought he played quite well for us in the CL qualifiers and pre season games.

as in 2 doing the that just potential
If you just buy proven players then it is going to cost the club an absolute packet in the long term. It simply makes no financial sense to do this. There is no guarantee that a "proven" player will produce the goods either. Kewell, Morientes, Cissˇ, Diouf. How much did that lot cost? More than £35M? Let's forget about Diao, Cheyrou etc. etc.
It if far, far better to have a number of young player with bags of potential. Will they all make the grade? It is more than likely than you will mange to acquire all these players for the fee of a proven player. If one of them makes it then you're quids in.
At no stage am I suggesting that we exclusively sign young players. Rafa has been signing a lot of young players and proven players. A healthy mix.
I see nowt wrong with it.
ps. I am not writing Kewell, Morientes or Cissˇ off. They will come good but we ain't exactly seen the best of them for the cash we shelled out.
