05 March 2005 Barclays Premiership Newcastle v Liverpool, 15:00

An utterly tedious encounter between two sides who entertained us so greatly in the good old days. 5-0 to Newcastle but the signs are there for all to see that Liverpool are making great strides forward under Benitez. The desperadoes and the sheep keep the faith. Walk on.

09 March 2005 UEFA Champions League Bayer Leverkusen v Liverpool, 19:45

Very exciting affair between two giants of the European game. Sadly for Liverpool you have to get out of your own half and keep the ball in order to score. 6-0 to Bayer but the signs are there for all to see that Liverpool continue progressing nicely under Rafa after the trauma of the Houllier era.

16 March 2005 Barclays Premiership Liverpool v Blackburn, 20:00

This one has shock defeat written all over it but in all honesty I can't see Blackburn losing it. 3-1 to Blackburn with another own goal from Riise, set up nicely by his gimp friend Hyypia.

20 March 2005 Barclays Premiership Liverpool v Everton, 16:05

Pedigree will out eventually and it's no secret that the table never lies. Everton should take the points with consummate ease and consign Liverpool to the UEFA Cup for 2005-6. Hands up all those who want to be in the UEFA Cup next year. LOL! 4-2 to Everton but Liverpool remain a very entertaining side to watch, with the new players continuing to settle in nicely. It augurs well for next season's UEFA Cup.

02 April 2005 Barclays Premiership Liverpool v Bolton, 15:00

Now Lally, stop being smug
You can't sum it up any better than that, Baros just isn't the future. Cisse and...

A damage-limitation exercise this one. An ultra-tight defensive formation should see Liverpool limit the number of goals conceded to just two. Despite not scoring at the other end the crowd remain very happy with the way things are progressing under Benitez, as evidenced by the conversations at half-time.

09 April 2005 Barclays Premiership Man City v Liverpool, 15:00

Tough one to call this. But with Liverpool fighting off relegation the odds have to be stacked in their favour. Not being a betting man I shall ignore the odds and go with my head, which says a Fowler hat-trick should see City collect all the points. As a spectacle however Liverpool look good, and the crowd leave with ten minutes to go saying that the signs for next year's UEFA Cup remain quite positive.

Comment: Seems more like a squad player type potential purchase (albeit at the right price). Does anyone here follow Bundesliga or know anything...

16 April 2005 Barclays Premiership Liverpool v Tottenham, 15:00

Liverpool snatch a goal in the last minute to claim what could very well turn out to be their most important point of the season. 1-1 at home to most-improved side of the season (excluding Liverpool of course) means the crowd are very happy going home and can't keep quiet about our prospects for next season's UEFA Cup. Riise the scorer yet again, showing us all how great a manager Benitez really is. Most improved defender of the year Djimi Traore with the own goal. Beni takes all the blame, to his eternal credit and the undying admiration of his loyal fans, of whom there are many, if not indeed hordes.

19 April 2005 Barclays Premiership Portsmouth v Liverpool, 19:45

Away trips to the south coast are never easy, so I'm going to go with a home win here. Fans in Norway watching it on the radio console each other that with performances like this "we" can't be far from major success. Portsmouth 4 Liverpool 1.

23 April 2005 Barclays Premiership Crystal Palace v Liverpool, 15:00

Liverpool with a one nil away win. Morientes scored the winner with his head (how often did we see that under the previous regime?) after a truly excellent corner by Riise, which even fooled Riise himself. If you haven't seen this corner get yourself a bag of popcorn and a can of coke and get yourself down to a pub for the highlights later. You won't be disappointed I promise you. YES YES YES!!!! The Rafa Rafolution gathers pace and the fans go ballistic! Crystal Palace 0 Liverpool 1. Watching from the stands Gerard Houllier remarks to Afro-French TV that in all his years as a Liverpool fan he has never witnessed such an amazing goal. Benitez beams brightly and accepts the plaudits.

30 April 2005 Barclays Premiership Liverpool v Middlesbrough, 15:00

After the excitement of last week it's understandable Liverpool should feel a little exhausted. Gerrard complains of interview fatigue before the game and is replaced by crowd favourite Nunez. 5-1 to Boro in what should be a warning to Liverpool fans that the ghost of Houllier still haunts the club. The eleven Spanish players on the pitch call a press conference after the game to publicly agree with the fans.

07 May 2005 Barclays Premiership Arsenal v Liverpool, 15:00

Only one winner here. Still, we can derive some satisfaction from the performance and let's not forget the ghost of Houllier. 3-0 to Arsenal. The fans think back fondly to the day they whipped Crystal palace 1-0, with a headed goal.

14 May 2005 Barclays Premiership Liverpool v Aston Villa, 15:00

Benitez takes his players onto the pitch before the game to a round of applause that would have warmed the heart of Adolf Hitler at the Nuremberg rallies. Through a translator he and his players thank the fans for their paitience, to which the fans respond by singing a rousing rendition of YNWA. The referee agrees to make up for the terrible injustices of the past season by awarding Liverpool three penalties in the first ten minutes. Liverpool captain Victoria Pellegrino misses all of them but the signs are there for everybody to see that our penalty taking has improved immensely over the past twelve months. Villa take the points with a shock 6-2 win but the fans go home happy in the knowledge that the transfer window is only 6 months away and Russia is making noises about Abramovic.

Things haven't looked this good since Shankly took over in 1959.

We have as much chance of winning the thing as Arsenal taking the title but...better to work on that 4th place. It'll make it so much sweeter wouldn't it? ---------------------- "If...
