Just stop to remember all the discussions in every football NG after seeing replay after replay of incidents and the differing opinions of what actually happened. Would you trust a panel to get it right at the cost of three points? And what a wonderful way to corrupt a result. Simply get one of the opponents to take a blatant dive.
Italy penalty 228I disagree with your buttessment, the player was in his line of running, remember this is all happening at high speed, and why should he have to stop and...
How would you like to pay to watch an important match where this happened in the first 10 mins knowing that the result would later almost certainly be made null and void ?
Your idea of mbuttive fines makes more sense. If the fines were truly enormous it would only take a few fines to both club and player, when there is no doubt about the dive, for the message to get through. Fine plus suspension of one month for the player, 50 grand for the club. We get enough of these " no doubt about it" incidents each season to make it workable.
On the other hand FIFA might just relax this stupid idea of trying to make football a non contact sport which is making refs so quick to see foul whenever there is contact and a player goes to ground. The players are taking advantage of an atmosphere created by the bosses of football. Of all the ideas, I would prefer to see a dive as an immediate red card. Refs would have to use discretion and might get it wrong sometimes, but it would certainly make dives a very risky option. Let them add the offence to the established list as "a blatant attempt to cheat"
