No, both are arguable but one is illogical if related to true competition, unless you can find a "logical" reason for the seeding of none qualifiers over those in by right, other than as one more sop to the richer clubs? The clarity of UAFA's comp rules adds nothing to the sense of the same.
The fact that a silly rule is mainly inaffecive is not the greatest grounds for keeping it.

Agree, and I doubt it will ever change while we have UAFA committee rule and fans like sheep who will critisise a man like JM when he makes a , possibly rare, correct complaint. If Raffa or SAF had made the same observation we would have instant agreement from Pool or ManU fans.

I am sure you are right. I doubt if JM's ultruism goes that far, but it again avoids the point. Is he correct? I don't think a teams past record should any bearing on seeding, particularly in a competition which is supposed to be a Cup for league champions.
You make some good points but "if it aint broke don't fix it " is not one of them.
Would it be so difficult to envisage just one Euro Cup comp instead of the 2 we now have? Those who now contest the minor cup comp playing in the early rounds with the top few of the lesser Euro leagues,the champions and runners up of top leagues coming in at a later round, just like the FA Cup. Teams like Haifa would still get the chance to battle to the late rounds, still plenty of room for shocks when games are one off and drawn from the hat.
A real gusty Cup competition without this artificial league section which we all know is just there to protect the big boys from a poor result. Every TV game a meaningful 90 mins. Newcastle v Juve in the pissing rain....winner take all to get to the final rounds? Unforgettable games instead of the defensive turgid stuff we often get at the league stage now.
A real competition. amazing matches, plenty of shocks but with a less games and true integrity. How that group of 14 would hate the idea -))
