Moyes accuses compliance unit of victimising Everton

Dominic Fifield Saturday February 4, 2006 The Guardian

David Moyes has accused the Football buttociation's compliance unit of "victimising" Everton after Duncan Ferguson was charged with violent conduct for an alleged shove on Wigan Athletic's Pascal Chimbonda following the striker's dismissal at the JJB Stadium on Tuesday.

Ferguson, who starts a three-match ban today for punching Paul Scharner which prompted the red card, has requested a personal hearing to appeal against the second charge relating to his tussle with Chimbonda. The referee Mike Dean included in his match report of the game a request for the compliance unit to examine incidents immediately after Ferguson's dismissal.

A disciplinary commission will now hear from Ferguson on February 10 before deciding whether to increase his three-match ban to six games yet, despite there being set situations when the compliance unit is allowed to act, Moyes made his frustrations public yesterday.

"To me, it looks like victimisation, as if we're getting picked on," said Moyes, who was publicly critical of the unit over an incident which saw Tim Cahill handed a three-match ban for violent conduct for a clash with Newcastle United's Celestine Babayaro in November. "I think Everton are being victimised by people at the FA. I just hope the people selecting the next England manager have got more qualities in their selection process than the people who they've put in the compliance department. I'll take them video evidence that they've not charged people in other circumstances when other people have pushed each other because they have to be fair. It's about consistency. Why this game and not other games? Why this incident and not others?

"I think the Premier League are going to have look into the people charged with making these decisions. I just don't know who or what this that is wrong."
