Liverpool Vs BenficaLucky Devin Reina Vs Moretto? I'll take Reina but it's debatable. Riise Vs Leo? Right now, I'll take Leo. Finnan Vs Nelson? I'll take Finnan. I'll take Finnan...
Oh, how I've waited for your response to these Benfica victories, Andre.
Benfica's league form (and as you stated the Portugese Cup loss) has been absolutely dreadful, and embarbuttes *me* much less the supporters in Portugal. No one can deny that their play has been ridiculously up and down this year. However, I have seen a different team playing in the CL, not necessarily a team that's super inspired 'because' they are in the CL, but a team that plays knowing what is on the line. I don't think it's necessarily a testament at all to "how bad English teams have gotten" at all. Liverpool were very unlucky not to have at least one goal against us in the first 10 minutes of the second leg, and overall, top to bottom, Liverpool is at least equal if not better than Benfica. So, what gives? How did we win both legs? A little bit of luck *wink wink* and a bit of stability.
Benfica are a much better team than what we have shown in Portugal, but at least we're getting it done thus far in Europe, and seeing as FC Quaresma is running away with the Portugese title, that's fine with me. If we end up getting past Barcalona thanks to 3 own goals and a penalty kick, I'll be happy still.
It is, after all, the win that counts. Interesting perspective, BTW, I'll give you that much.
