My take on Stevie's departure ignore if you wish, of course

When I first read the news I felt like I'd been kicked in the gut. All I could think of was the impression I'd been given since we won the ECL that he was more than happy to stay and that contract talks were a formality. I still feel a little nauseous about the whole thing but a few things I can be objective about:

PARRY: GERRARD'S STAYING WITH LIVERPOOL
Rick Parry has this morning revealed that Steven Gerrard has changed his mind over wanting to leave Anfield and committed his future to Liverpool FC. The Reds chief executive broke...

(1)He's a young man who has given a great deal of effort for us, up to and including the Champion's League win just 6 weeks ago. If he wants to test new waters elsewhere and be the focal point for his next squad, he needs to move relatively soon otherwise he'll be a 'has been' like Beckham.

(2)It doesn't seem like it could be about the money, I mean, squad money of 100,000 pounds-week versus 130,000? That doesn't seem reason enough to leave. He must just be ready to move on, he's been here a while and just won the ECL. Personally, I couldn't imagine doing that, but his ambitions are his own.

(3)I wish him the best, buttuming he leaves England. I actually think the team who ought to scrape up the money for him should be Inter. They need him desperately.

A few subjective things:

(1)Thank God we can make Jamie Carragher the captain. I've never seen a Liverpool player who deserved it more excepting Kenny.

(2)Thank God all my Liverpool shirts have Carra's name on the back. ;)

(3)I believe in Rafael Benitez, NOT Steven Gerrard, when it comes to winning the EPL.

(4)I believe that if we could pull Riquelme, he and Xabi together would keep us from ever missing Gerrard.

Where are you
I know you are not that stupid as to think just coz a player is not transfer listed it means he is not available... If you make the right sounds, refuse to sign the...

(5)More than ever we need a stand-in for Didi.

Part of me wants to hate him for putting himself before the needs of Liverpool FC, but that's because I'm a bigger fan than he is apparently. As for loyalty, I've said it before, a man like Jamie Carragher would rather spend his time cutting the Anfield grbutt than playing for anyone else.

WTH
