Absolute nonsense. Partisan digs aside for one moment, comparitively speaking, the LFC side that won it last season were not very good. No one claims that Liverpool by virtue of winning the CL are suddenly the best team in Europe. However, no one argues that the team who win the Premiership are the best team in England.
By virtue of reaching the final tonight Arse have a good chance of winning it. And yet they've struggled to be the 4th best team in England this year. It is possible that Barca will batter them, play the better football for 90 mins but have no luck in front of goal. They might hit the post and bar countless times, have balls cleared off the line, Lehmann has a blinder, and arse might get one stuffy chance, an og, a cross that goes in, and win the game. This will not make them the best side on the night or the best side in Europe.
Didn't Villareal only win 3 games on their way to the semi-final? They could have won the CL without winning again, flukily taking Barca to penalties in the final.
The point is, not very good teams can win the CL, it has been done twice in the last 2 years, but you have to be very good to win the league.
Firstly, you are
You might get a tough draw all the way to the final or a relatively easy draw. Someone else might knock the good teams out for you. A bad refereeing decision could see you go through when you should have been knocked out. All these things even themselves out over a 38 game league season.
The point about the league is that you play exactly the same teams that everyone else plays, twice - A perfectly even playing field.
and secondly, if
Thus the CL is easier to win for every team than their own league is.
