Offside rule
Understandable that they want to free the game up, but the way the offside rule now stands is silly. There was always a rule which protected players from being offside...

Hang on a minute here. I said let's say that Crouch is a donkey for the sake of argument, because I didn't want to get in to a 'who's a bigger donkey' discussion, so I was just trying to level that particular playing field. Personally, I like Crouch as a player. Whether he produces long term remains to be seen, but I'm happy with his attitude and play thus far.

My original post was simply to say that I couldn't believe, listening to the Brum game last night, that Bruce had said those things he said. I thought Heskey sounded like he was playing very much as he used to for us, rolling the defender once or twice to shoot straight at the keeper, losing possession all the time through a shocking first touch, the ball bouncing off him all the time, never sticking.

For Bruce to say he prefers Crouch is laughable. Crouch has excellent technique, and I agree with Graham Taylor who said something about how everyone always says he has good touch, 'for a big man'. Taylor's point was that no, he's got good touch, genuinely good touch, regardless of size.

I think Crouch holds the ball up better than Heskey, can bring other people in better than Heskey, and despite having the pace of a bricked up Mank scum cut and shut, he looks more dangerous in possession, even running at players. I like him. He's not a donkey. He can't head the ball for toffee, mind.

I'm happier he's in my squad over Heskey. I was just making this point in the light of last night's game, that's all. Whether either of them will score more than fifteen goals a season on a regular basis, remains to be seen.
