Not too up on the NY scene other than Iggy & New York Dolls. I was more into the UK old skool stuff including spinoff's like Ska-Two Tone, but I must admit one of the best ever punk tunes is "I wanna be your dog" by Iggy & The Stooges. Great stuff !! Ramones were more West Coast I believe and again, definatly clbutted as "punk gods".
But of course, the best punk band of them all over the pond has to be The Dead Kennedy's..., now they are the ultimate Gods imo of US based punk! What about Jello Biafra, has he got a book out? He ran for Governor once I believe and tried to pbutt a law where ALL politicians had to wear clown suits in official meetins.......now that is a strange bloke but hell what a punk attitude!!
I was a big Buzzcocks Fan, Pete Shelly used to live at the bottom of my road when I was 7 years old and "almost" came to one of our gigs about 6 years ago. It was at the Roadhouse in Manchester and he was sat in a pub over the road. We went into this pub after the soundcheck and, quite litrally , bumped into him. Spilling his beer!!! Our drummer sparked up a conversation with him , I stood in awe!! A guy in a band I idolosed in the mid eighties!!!! Very surreal.
