Trying to convert a DVD to AVI.

Basic is,

My Iriver mp3 player plays compressed video. I've figured out the right codec, size frame, rate etc... and have managed to get the highlights of *the game* that Dopeman posted a few weeks ago . I used "Virtual Dub 1.6.1" which works a treat when the settings and codec's are set right. This is basically the last process of converting Gpp (phone) and AVI files to the correct format for the mp3 player. So I believe that I can convert DVD's to AVI and put them on the MP3 player too.

I am trying to put my Red Hot Chilli Peppers Video DVD onto the mp3 player. The format on the disk is .BUP. and .VOB I have downloaded DVD2AVI and is based on MSSG MPEG2Decode1.77.4.

I have managed "somehow" to convert the track "give it away" but the sound and video have both converted separately IE..Sound is a huge wav file and the picture is avi but without the sound. Can I "merge" these or have I recorded-converted it wrong?

Pretty new to this DVD recording lark so any tecchi help or recommended progs appreciated. Point me in the direction of a site that cuts out the middleman so I can get my head around this maze of conversion speak!!! I'm going mad here....Still trying things but getting a headache. (Im still just trying things out at the mo and as I said, the bit about converting to a format recognised by the mp3 player was a bit tricky but I managed to do that bit. There must be a way of doing the dvd to AVI properly and with both picture and sound at the same time)

PS. Floyd yesterday were awesome. The Who were great too and I was really surprised at how good Madonna was. Only about 80 yards from the stage. My ears are still ringing.
