Some good points there sump-face. Naturally you have to show support to your fellow RS hence your comment that he kicked my butt. But I guess that deep down you know that he and I got into a war that started off about football and degenerated into one of those Usenet flame wars you see every day. You're right, it is about stamina, patience and self will but rules? You and I both know there are none except don't lose face and if you do, cover it up.

This is the 3rd time Ted and I have got into a flame war and each time it's ended with him supposedly killfiling me and apologising to the group for letting it get so far, he just doesn't seem to learn. And ok maybe I don't either, but by poking my nose into your group and slagging your team off I expect some level of abuse, but when it becomes personal as it always seems to with Ted, then I give back as good as I get, and in fact usually I give back more, but as you say, that's what makes Usenet a wonderful place!
