The reason that this doesn't apply to current season ticket holders, may be that it could be opposed on legal grounds. It could be argued that the 'contract' with a club is over longer than a single season, and if this was excepted, then changing the conditions so include all cup competitions could be illegal.

Of course it's a cash grab. The man and his sons have financed the club take over at ruinous interest rates and, no matter how small some United Supporters boycott is, it's hurting them. They're simply pbutting the burden on to the loyal.
On the heels of making non-essential team mates and team staff pay their way to the League Cup final, this should come as compleat surprise to nobody but the most daft and deluded.
