Quotes of the Year Pt III I've got to get through a night with Freddie Flintoff before I can think about anything else! England captain Michael Vaughan responds...

Well, the rumour (unsubstantiated, granted) doing the rounds on Tyneside was that he was shocked, angry and rather upset at the treatment. He'd had prior phone conversations with Gerrard about it and was told he would get an excellent reception. As a Newcastle fan, it's obviously a fear that I have that we could lose Owen back to Liverpool. Now, I'm somewhat less worried, but it's still a concern. The overriding thought though is that Shepherd, who's a stubborn bastard, would not sell him to Liverpool (even if he put a transfer request in) unless Liverpool matched our valuation.

Between £95K and £120K per week, although we'll probably have to see the accounts at FYE to get the exact remuneration. Even Dyer got a £90K-week deal, so I'm expecting it would be closer to the £120K-week for Owen.

That's a pretty arrogant comment, don't you think? He's local and bleeds black and white, so he'd not be interested in a move to Liverpool, but perhaps if a big club came in for him etc. etc. etc. See, not nice is it?

Taylor is far from the finished article, and could hardly be described as even established yet with only around 20 career league appearances. He's only 19, but is still far better than any other defender we have at the club. The downside is that he lacks pace and height. He might grow a bit, but I don't think he'll get much quicker.
