Owen too expensive, says Benitez:BBC NEWS
Liverpool manager Rafael Benitez says they kept up their efforts to sign Michael Owen from Real Madrid until the last minute but his price was too high. When it became clear he could leave, Owen...

This morning both the Daily Mail and The Independent are reporting get out clauses in Michael Owen's contract. I well remember the expression on Duncan Ferguson's face when he was transferred to Newcastle = "Don't wanna be here !" Then followed periods of injury and eventually he went back to his beloved Everton(He has the tattoo). His mind and body obviously not in tune.

Michael Owen wants regular first team football with the World Cup coming up and with 'Ratface' Eriksson's unhelpful comments he panicked into signing for Newcastle, a team destined to follow in the footsteps of Leeds. Where the f*** did they suddenly get 40=Million from ??? It may have been his only option if he wanted to play regularly. He should have stayed at Real Madrid because if the evidence of their performance against Cadiz on Sunday he would probably have been choice number three quite soon. Raul will not score or get injured and Baptista looked a bit of a Brasilian donkey.

I wonder how things will look at the end of January. Souness is a poor manager with a team with a very suspect defence.

As for Liverpool ?

My comments in an ealier thread I still stick by even though I bet most of you disagree.

Great manager though he is I still believe Benitez will struggle with understanding English football.

Liverpool's situation - 'Who will create the chances? Who will score the goals?'

Reina = Great goalkeeper Traore = Can be very good but loses concentration. Finan = good workaday Premier League player Hyypia = slow and past his best but still vital. Carragher = Brilliant Gerrard = 'Send on Stevie' Hamann = Getting on a bit but still makes a very important contribution as helps stop the other team playing. Potter = Too young but has potential. Zenden = past his best but can cross the ball skillfully.Good technique which Liverpool lack at times. Kewell = Always injured Riise = Good left sided player, plenty of energy. Not so sure how well he covers.Great shot. Luis Garcia = Great shot on occasions but often loses the ball and pbutting could be better. Sinama Pongolle = Too much a similar type of player to Luis Garcia but stronger where Garcia is weaker. Crouch = This 'beanpole' will often be injured. Doesn't seem to fit into Liverpool. Can be useful in certain games. Probably kept quiet by a clbutt defender. Morientes = Seems happier when playing alonside Baros. Couldn't 'cut the mustard' at Real Madrid. Cisse = Fast with an interesting line in hair styles ? Baros = Sadly now at Villa. Should have scored more goals but can frighten defences. Sissoko = Early days but his energy and drive look promising. Josemi = Yet to prove his worth. Alonso = Great player, good technique and pbutting. A definite plus along with Carragher and Gerrard. Whitbread = Shows promise. Medjani = Will keep Josemi out of the team. Warnock = showing promise already. Mellor = Injured. Great goal against Arsenal.

The latest two signings as of today = Never heard of them !
