PAISLEY V FERGUSON: WHO'S THE GREATEST

I've always considered Bill Shankley the best Liverpool manager. It was he that took a club from the second Division and laid the foundations for those that followed him. Without 'Shanks' there would have been no glory. Busby built three great teams, he started in the 40s not the 50s and built a championship team out of practically nothing. Taking a club that was teetering on bankruptcy and within a few years he won the Championship. He did it mostly with aging players (the club couldn't afford anything else). But while playing these older players Sir Matt had established a youth system that started to produce great players and it was these players that were to form his second great team (and the greatest the club has ever had). The Busby babes started making the headlines in the early 50s and within a few years Busby had formed them into an unstopable force. The disaster at Munich took that team away yet Busby came back from near rest to build yet another great team. this team was made up of Munich survivors and some astute signings. The 'Holy Trinty' of Law Best and Charlton were the mainstays of this team. I respect Bill Shankly as a true great, but even he saluted the greatness of Sir Matt Busby calling him the greatest manager in the history of the game.
