I'm more than aware they ain't a Barca-Milan but they progressed to the last 16 entirely on merit. Anyone would think they were gifted their place in the CL from the start. The Independent write up on the game noted -

"The enigma that is Liverpool continues to confound, though last night theirs was a glorious contribution to the Premiership's two-pronged buttault on Europe's elite. Horrendously inconsistent they may be domestically, but they have now seared into the quarter-finals of this competition for only the second time in 20 years. Talk of a Spanish-inspired renaissance is sweeping the continent."
