Play Offs 379I suspect from what I have seen so far that Chelsea might be a shade better than last year once they get the wide men back, but still...
I think it's TOO accessible. There was nothing wrong with the way it was, where you went and paid a reasonably affordable price to pay in to watch your team. Although there were season tickets around, most of the supporters paid on the gate. You'd queue up good and early in order to get in the ground, but it was worth it because you were part of something special. I still love going, but it's not the same.
As it is now, there needs to be this mbuttive injection of cash from advertising-sponsorship-gate receipts just in order for clubs to survive. The players are mbuttively overpaid, and quite often spoiled prima donnas. This has pushed the price of entry up to around £30 upwards, not that many can actually pay in for games this way, as you need a season ticket to be buttured of getting in. The less well-off can't hope to pay for these tickets - especially if they take into account taking their lad or daughter.
I can't see how this is good for the game or good for the cities and towns that the clubs come from. There is a big effort by clubs to become 'global brands' these days. It's not what the clubs are there for. Speaking about the city of Liverpool, there are two clubs that represent us and you're either a red or a blue. I don't much care whether we sell shirts in Bangkok or Shaghai or wherever else and I don't care about competing financially with big European clubs. We used to compete and wipe the floor with the best that Europe could throw at us anyway. There's generations of kids now who won't ever know what it's like to call for your mates and make your way to the ground or go the match with their Dad.
I know I'm a dinosaur and I'm ranting, but I just can't stand hearing people say that Sky have been good for football. They end it and replaced it with something I don't recognise.
