I suspect from what I have seen so far that Chelsea might be a shade better than last year once they get the wide men back, but still does not mean they can walk the title as before. The opposition is better this time. Man U are off to a flyer. If they continue it and lead the list in May why should they be forced to meet a slow starting but fast finishing Pool or Chelsea. We already have a play off competition. It's called the FA Cup.
A lousy idea. Leagues provide mostly worthy champions by the fairest way available. Cups provide different challenges and different drama. These two don't mix very well as we can see from the CL where the league section is just there to ensure that the big boys get a second chance if they slip up. League or Cup is the way to go, but never both. How much satisfaction could a side get by beating a proven better team in a final one off match? It would dilute the Prem and make 9 months of effort meaningless.
Seems the FA are moving towards that woolly logic of UEFA and FIFA .....no surprise, looking at their recent record of stupidity. The best thing for football would be that these three get involved in play offs which would eliminate them all to be replaced by new blood. Maybe people who understand the unique difference between cup and league football and know how to market it. People who understand that ko matches last 90 mins, not 180 and that if they keep to the different formats we will get better TV games than we have ever had.
