Reds seal Aurelio transfer
Jun 28 2006 By Chris Bascombe, Liverpool Echo FABIO AURELIO will officially become a Liverpool player this weekend. Aurelio will sign his four-year Anfield contract on July 1, having already agreed terms...

It's all nonsense. A pseudo show of sportsmanship from players who will mainly cheat as much as they can get away with in all other aspects of the game. This confusion came when refs started to allow players to decide when aid was needed for a player on the ground by accepting that a trainer comes on if the opposing side dumps the ball out of play.

It suddenly became standard practice, which made faking injury an even more certain way to get a hold up in play. The days when refs ignored those thought to be faking ,and left them laying on the pitch ,are now gone. Remember how quickly those recoveries were?

Refs should stick to the rules. They alone are the sole deciders of if and when play should be stopped, not the players. They certainly should not be instructing a side to play an uncontested dropped ball back to the opponents goalkeeper which we often see. If players want to appear to be "gentlemen" and put the ball out of play we cannot stop them, But the ref is not obliged to call the trainer on ,and if they started to order the throw in to take place without delay we would get rid of this crap for good and cut down the number of fake injuries.

It's not difficult. Just stick to the rules. They worked for over a 100 years.
