What do you mean by "drugs"? If you mean injection and crack then indeed they have an awfull affect on people and on society in general.
But they are a world apart from a drug like pot. So to lump all drugs in one category, and judge them as such is a very ignorant thing to do. In fact alchohol has more in common with crack and herion than pot. Alchohol also causes a great deal of damage to people's lives, and it is like herion a drug that people develop long term problematic adictions to.
Most of my freinds from the age of 16-25 were smoking pot and poping Es and acid, i did myself. Not one of them ended up on hard drugs, none on of them stole or robbed to pay for it. And the only friends i have which have developed adiction problems are alchoholics, in the last couple of years 2 of my friends have been told by their doctors that they will soon be dead if they dont stop drinking. The last 2 times I have seen one of them he has been blind drunk and suicidal, he has spent time on a psychiatric hospital, not sectioned but voluntarily.
As for alchoholics recovering, what about all the damage they do along the way? What about the all the people who get stabbed in drunken brawls on a friday or saturday night?
Soft drugs dont always, in actual fact rarely, lead to hard drugs and violence. In fact the only violence I have ever experience was because of alchohol.
