Obviously Pool need scoring forwards. but I have heard this " all we need is" stuff hundreds of times before and it seldom works out quite like that. Too simplistic.
Man U will also improve with a couple of decent buys midfield. Spurs don't need much to improve them 20%. Arsenal are improving and with one or two shrewd Wenger buys will probably be even better next year (if that scoring genius stays) and Chelsea are not going to be a static target waiting to be caught. If they improve just enough to win one game more than the 2 lost so far this year, and to win 2 of the three they have drawn, any side competing with them would need a close to perfect season. Would Pool be that good even with better forwards? Very doubtful right now.
The hope is that Chelsea will come back to the field ,and that would give quite a few other teams a chance, not just Pool. Outside the present top few Bolton and Blackburn could find an extra 20 pts. Will we get a Newcastle revival?
But you are correct of course. It's been a pretty decent record so far, particularly with such poor results from the forwards. Could still finish an admirable 2nd if they can get over this seeming loss of drive.
