Paul Rogers 17 October 2005 Rafael Benitez has hinted that Djibril Cisse may retain his place in the starting eleven when Liverpool travel to Belgium to take on Anderlecht in the Champions League on Wednesday. The French international scored the winner on Saturday against Blackburn Rovers and Benitez revealed with Anderlecht desperate for a win, the striker may be used to exploit openings in the opposition's defence.
"It is a possibility," Benitez claimed when questioned by the press about whether or not Cisse would start on Wednesday. "Anderlecht know they must win to have any chance of qualifying and they realise this could be their last chance. If they attack high up the pitch, we will have chances to exploit and maybe Cisse will start."
While Anderlecht's recent Champions League record has been less than impressive - losing each of their last nine games in the tournament - Benitez still believes they are a team capable of causing opponents problems.
"If you look at the players they have in their team, it's clear that they are not a bad team," Benitez claimed. "They have a lot of quality to choose from and they attack with pace. They certainly play some nice football but sometimes when they go forward, they leave some space open at the back. I've watched their game against Real Betis and they created a couple of clear openings before Betis scored. They will want to win and so do we so it could be a very exciting game of football to look forward to."
