Paul Eaton 01 November 2005 Rafael Benitez believes Liverpool's Premiership form will benefit if they can secure Champions League qualification tonight. The Reds take on Anderlecht at Anfield knowing that a victory - coupled with a Chelsea win in Seville over Real Betis - would guarantee them a place in the last 16 with two Group G games still to play.
"It will be great to have two games at the end of the group without pressure," said Benitez. "Then you can use the squad and maybe try different players in different positions, and we can also prepare for the Premiership games with more time.

"But the first thing is to win the game, then we'll see. But, analysing the teams, it's true that we considered it a difficult draw when it was made.
"Now, maybe, it looks easy because the team has worked hard and we've done our job. We need to play at Anfield with the same intensity as we have done abroad.

"If we qualify now it will mean we have done a good job, having started our season so early and having to play so many games."
Benitez is hoping Saturday's victory over West Ham will now provide the platform for the Reds to forget their recent troubles and concentrate on stringing together a winning run.
"In my opinion, the team is stronger and more consistent this year than last," he said. "But it is crazy to be saying these things when one week ago people were saying: 'Liverpool in crisis'. We have some weaknesses, for sure, but we're improving.
"We can still be more consistent, winning three games in a row for example, and against Anderlecht we have the chance to move towards that aim.
"We need to score more goals, but the team is more consistent. If we start controlling goals more quickly, we'll eventually score more goals.
"But what's more difficult? To score or to clear the ball? To score, you need to shoot at a target. When you clear, you can clear it anywhere. It's easier to work with the defence than the attack.
"I'd like us to score as many goals as possible but, as a manager, you must work on all areas. You can work on the strikers for more time than the defenders, but you can improve them less because clearing the ball will always be easier."
