Mark Platt 21 September 2005 Rafael Benitez is keeping a close eye on the under-17 World Championships that are currently taking place in Peru as he continues the search for potential stars of the future. The Liverpool manager views the FIFA-organised tournament as one of vital importance in terms of spotting young talent and he's revealed to Liverpoolfc.tv that the club is well represented out in South America.

"With regards to showcasing possible world-clbutt players of the future this is a very important competition and we will have scouts over there looking out for any promising players that may crop up," says Benitez.

Athletic in Orbaiz admission
Athletic Bilbao insist they have received no official contact from Liverpool regarding midfielder Pablo Orbaiz...

"The likes of Sinama and Le Tallec were first spotted in this tournament a few years back. It is vital these days to spot talented players at a young age, get them in and starting working with them as early as possible.

"All the best teams in this age group will be there and that means so will the best players. For this reason it is essential that we have representatives over in Peru.

"Signing up the best young players is a very competitive market. There is always a lot of scouts at events like this and it will be difficult but we must do our best to try and sign up any players we deem good enough for this football club."

The FIFA under-17 World Championships kicked off last Friday and runs until October 2.
