Have you never seen the gay festivals that use the word 'queer'? 'It's Queer up North' is a well known one. Aren't you aware that sometimes oppressed groups use the insults hurled at them within their own groups to take the sting out of them?
If a skinhead calls a gay man queer it's an insult. If gay festival organisers use the word queer they're 'not' being insulting. Readers of the Daily Mail do not point this out and say 'we can all call gays queer now because they do it themselves.'
