Spot on! Like it or not, we are burdened with the past. I also get a bit pissed off with what seems to be excessive PC action when I read of objections to words like 'black' even when used in a natural, descriptive context. But I also remember standing alone in the stark rooms of Auchwitz a couple of years ago looking at the piles of thousands of small kids shoes, reading glbuttes, suit cases etc, just a small part of the belongings taken from a total of 12 million jews dissolutioned by the Nazi's in that camp and others. It was just too easy. First they complained about the influence the jews had in business, law, science and the arts and this grew, by encouragement over a short period, to the 'known' fact that all jews were fithy, evil, inferior,Christian hating pigs, vermin who should be eliminated. From prejudice to hatred in 4 or 5 years. Too easy to think of this terrible time as a glich in history. It was yesterday. It was in my lifetime, and there will still be kind old men in Germany, now bouncing great grandchildren on their knees, who once strutted in SS uniforms as they escorted mothers, holding the hands of toddlers, to the gas chambers.
So maybe the brief irritation caused by over reaction is a small price to pay for vigilance?
