IMO, we should never even have flirted with Owen in the first place. Given that everyone knew the focus was on a center-back and right winger, and that in Crouch, whatever you think of him, Benitez had already signed HIS striker. While the suits were meeting Owen, they instead should've been concentrating on strengthening one of the two key positions. And also, my gut feeling is that most Liverpool fans were against Owen returning.
I just hope this hasn't rocked the boat too much.
Snippet from the Guardian:
"Then there is the fallout within the Liverpool squad, where Carragher and Steven Gerrard will be privately dismayed that Owen has not returned. Djibril CissZ will remain, though it may take time before he feels wanted again.
CissZ was infuriated by being linked with a loan move to Monaco when asked at the France squad's training camp at Clairefontaine yesterday. "I don't want to leave Liverpool, but it annoys me that I'm apparently being offered to everyone. I'm not the one who's asked to leave. These rumours are coming out the club or somewhere. First it was Newcastle, then Marseille and now Monaco. I haven't got a clue what's going on."
