Some questions for the fans who support Pool but are still able to take an objective view beyond the sometimes amusing nonsense which fills football newsgroups. Benetez has become a hero, a tactical genius it seems. But what if Gudjohnsons last minutes shot had been diverted into the net? We all know it could have happened, and we all know what the papers an TV would be saying afterwards as they always reflect the result... " Chelsea kept cool and battered away at the Liverpool defence and got their reward in the final minutes with a magnificent goal."..blah , blah blah. The question is, what would you think of those supposed clever tactics then, after Pool lost a match because they had played so negatively and had no time to left to score again. The Carling mistake all over again? Still a tactical genius for a manager? You might guess that I hate that 9 behind the ball tactic when it is played for almost 90 mins.
I suppose luck plays a big part in reputations, and Benetez deserves some credit for managing a side through to the final but I still feel that he has been guilty of missing out on automatic entry to next years CL because of over protection of key players and dropping a vital handful of points in key matches which were there to be won.
So, now the dust has settled..... 4591that that had very CL probably but I agree Ren. It would not take many decent buys to turn this side into contenders next term, or more likely the season after. Injuries have been mbuttive...
I don't expect, in the present euphoria, that many will agree with me, but I have a hunch that plenty would if it had finished 1-1 yesterday?
I await the vitriol :-))
