Barcelona? with truth? football
Well, this is a a commonly held opinion, but not mine, but it isn't really relevant to the point and I have always felt it was a bit of a straw splitting argument. Buying players is part of the game now and has been for years. The top Euro sides have been doing it for decades. All Prem teams are full of purchased players and these have been the basis for the successes of Man U and Arsenal. If Chelsea's spending is somehow unacceptable it leads to the unavoidable question of just how much is acceptable? These silly criticisms which come from what you call " football purists" are hypocritical as we all know that these same fans will be crying out for the management to go out and buy new players to fill the weak positions. I have enjoyed the football played by Arsenal and Man U over the past years but who can deny that the teams were mainly purchased? So is it OK to buy if takes a couple of seasons to gell, but not acceptable if the manager gets it right first time? It does not add up mainly because it an opinion based on envy. I can understand this. Chelseas spending power is formidable but filling a side with good players has never made success a certainty.
The facts are, and this is the point I was making, Chelsea are as good as any side in Europe. Like it or not, they are a ' team' with team spirit second to none and much better than most. If Liverpool get past them where other highly rated Euro teams failed they need fear no nobody. This is a bit different to the opinion in the original post which suggested that Chelsea are not as big a hurdle as Juve. I fancy they are bigger.
