All irrelevant. A managers skills can never be judged by results alone. It's about getting the best from the players you have available and using the time you have to get them into an organised unit and arriving at the WC knowing how they play and where they play. Then getting them on the field confident in the system because it is familiar.

Sven has been lucky to have one of the best squads I can remember, probably due to the send foreigners most of them now play with and against every week. They have carried him through. Little direction has come the other way. Dear God....a few months before the WC ,and after years of preparation, we were experimenting with 5 midfield and a lone striker. Remember the look on his face as the side foundered, as fish out of water are certain to do? He patches....he fiddles...because he doesn't KNOW.

No place for the leagues highest English scorer, but enough space found for a youngster not good enough for his own first team and a talented cripple who will never be anything but a spectator.
