Fair play to Sven in taking a gamble on Walcott. Wenger did much the same thing. Think of the English strikers that have moved clubs in the last 5 years, and how much they transferred for. Isn't Walcott in the top 5?
He *could* be anything - we really don't know. Whether he could have the impact on the tournament that Rooney did in 2004 or Owen in 1998 remains to be seen. But I'm much happier taking the chance on this kid than the likes of Johnson and Bent. It's quite possible he'll not even get on the pitch, so the cynics can look to all sorts of conspiracy theories....takes the attention away from the other players, Dein's influence in pushing him for a place etc!
Personally, I'm not excited to see the likes of Hargreaves and Jenas in the squad. Surely Wright-Phillips should be in there, regardless of his lack of games this season. He's fit and will be raring to go. And he's impressed every time he's worn the England shirt. buttuming we don't have Rooney, Owen or a fit left back, my starting XI....
