Three points but plenty still to do

FIRST win of the season but by no means a vintage performance from the reigning European Champions.
Sunderland are always a tough nut to crack however Liverpool need to learn how to break down this kind of resistance if they are to overhaul Chelsea.
Overall Cisse does not look like the player that is going to convert the majority of his chances. He probably needs about three or four just to get that one goal. Whereas, dare we say it, Michael Owen probably just needs one.
The flanks seem to be our problem, the much promised right-winger can't come soon enough. Zenden needs time but how big a loss will Mark Gonzalez prove to be?
He sounded exactly what we needed - a conventional winger with pace that could whip in crosses like confetti. Hopefully the transfer will eventually go through in the New Year.
Xabi Alonso thankfully saved our blushes by hitting in a sweet free-kick that will hopefully give him the confidence to attempt more. His side-kick Sissoko has been a revelation thus far and hopefully he can live up to the new Vieira tag.
Two sheets is very positive and at the hint of being premature one wonders if Reina could be the solid, reliable, dominating goalkeeper that Liverpool have been searching for for years.
The bad news is seeing Steven Gerrard's injury. Chances are he wouldn't have played against Sofia anyway but the Reds obviously have to be careful with him, he is our most precious commodity and without him, well one can only have nightmares about that.
Let's hope Benitez can do a bit of friendsreunited.com by getting his old mate St Michael back on board
