build for success in the long-term?
Nail on the head completely, and yes, who *are* we to decide in the decision of building for long term success or instant trophies. I'm more on the building for long term success" side and I can now see your point with the newsgroup.
People slagging off Houllier for not bringing home the Premiership, the bread and butter, *was* slightly unjustified imo. I think the way his sacking came about and the way people reacted *was* unjustified and I , personally, would have liked to see him at the helm for more than just the one more season I mentioned. stability works wonders but, unfortunately, it didn't work that way. Unjust as it may seem, I agree that the "fans" did have a big part in his sacking.
The argument as to whether his signings would have come good is an excellent one though. Again, I find it hard to believe that the opinions of this newsgroup would have had anything to do with the final decision to sack him but this question is a big one where the fans are concerned.
To Pope and Doubters 4395Sumphucker Pope has a good point, now somewhat laboured, about Houllier. It's my opinion that Houllier should...
At the mo Pope, I'm a bit on the weary side, but will take a good look at your reply to my original post as I think I'm starting to see a point of view I had previously overlooked.
I need time to construct a positive-realistic reply to your comments and in the "mildly innebriated" state Im in , I don't think I would do it justice
Ill take on board what you say and think it over in my mind. I guess the real angst is the fact that a manager nowadays doesn't get the time needed to build future successes on a "reasonable! budget. The pressure of the modern game? That's the gist I get. If I'm wrong say so, and I'll look at it in a different view. But seriously, I think that no matter what an opinion is, it has to be taken in the context that it's meant. I just think you may come across a bit extremist at times. Ahh well. Rome wasn't built in a day as they say.
01 4396LOL! I said you clutched at straws..but come on...come on! *One* signing of 6m. 6m wouldn't cover the wages of diouf...
Till this time tomorrow, take care and chill a bit. I still feel were in safe hands.
