Pope has a good point, now somewhat laboured, about Houllier. It's my opinion that Houllier should have been given another season, however it's also my opinion that people with this view were in the minority.
People slagged off Houllier because the football had gone very stale, we're still seeing it now with what is largely his team, his signings hadn't performed and he was deemed to have wasted a good few million quid.
Do you think Houllier would have been able to secure the signature of Michael Owen again? What possible signals would this have sent out had he not been able to do this?
Of the latter players Houllier signed........ Diouf has improved at Bolton but you could build an argument against Houllier for playing him so out of position at Anfield. Cheyrou......... dunno if he was ever going to make it. Diao........ ?? would probably have made the grade with an extended run in the team but to coin a well worn phrase.... not the quality we need. Finnan, settled in. loks pretty comfortable now, looks like the international he is. Cisse??........ Rafa signed him. FSP-shows promise. ALT- the same. --
