Well let's hope you're right. I like him and I like his attitude. He has great feet for a big man but I think he needs the right player beside him. I just can't see Fowler being that player any more.

I hope we sell Crouchie before that if we do. Popes can't go back on their word!

In 2002 we finished second on 80 points with Murphy Heskey Biscan Smicer and co in the side. We were at top Premiership level then as well

But the next step up is the big one. If you ask me it's a mental step up, not a question of personnel. And collectively we failed that mental test two years ago. We had our chance to stiffen the club's moral fibre two years ago when we were faced with a choice of sacking Houllier and keeping him him. We took the easy option, and for that cowardice alone we don't deserve to become a great club once more. The fans who wanted Houllier out, and the board members who listened to them, and the players involved in making his final months at the club very difficult, deserve nothing whatsoever from football in return. They are petty, spiteful, small-minded people who hang on to the coat tails of whatever is fashionable and bask in the shadows of someone else's accomplishments. We are now a petty club, with petty fans, who have petty notions of how success can be bought, and petty ideas of success as a trophy bought cheaply on the back of someone else's labour. We have a petty chief executive who jets around the world pretending he's interested in securing our future when in reality he hasn't a clue. He is the epitome of pettiness, and the petty little sheep mimic him by floating around looking for the next biggest thing to hit the club,. In reality the next biggest thing was there for the grasping two years ago and they missed it. It pbutted right under their nostrils and they ignored it altogether. Small-minded people don't know any differently. I'm sure they saw no contradiction in cheering Traore and Biscan and Smicer twelve moths later in Istanbul. That's because they are utterly cretinous, stupid people who represent the single biggest impediment to my belief in a provident and intelligent deity.

People still gloss over this as though it never happened.

So i've been told. I presume he had an axe to grind with Houllier and people fell for it as the Truth? But I could be wrong.

Smicer made a great contribution as well.

So was Diouf.

But if Houllier had made that signing you'd have used a less euphemistic turn of phrase today?

43 million in two seasons is not "limited funds"

He has wasted most of that money on pure dross. A worrying sign of how how he will perform in the transfer market in the future?
