They were widely believed to be members of the Medellin cartel, and while they weren't charged directly for Escobar's rest, the escape vehicle belonged to them, and they were both imprisoned for falsely reporting that it had been stolen. P I see no evidence there of any drug deal in which Escobar was involved. People in drug cartels are simply the people in Colombia most likely to possess firearms and know how to use them, and also mix with the elite and know to find star soccer players. Other Colombian citizens would likely have committed the same act if they possessed the same arms and knowledge of Escobar
