Paul Eaton 16 November 2005 Harry Kewell is celebrating today after helping Australia to qualify for next summer's World Cup finals with a penalty shoot-out victory over Uruguay. In a nail-biting shoot-out in Sydney, Kewell netted the first penalty from the spot to send the Aussies on their way to a 4-2 victory.
Australia, trailing 1-0 from the first leg at the weekend, levelled the aggregate scores after 35 minutes when Mark Viduka and Harry Kewell combined to set up the chance for Marco Bresciano.
Kewell had only been on the field for three minutes before setting up the goal after coach Guus Hidding opted to make an early tactical change by bringing the Liverpool midfielder off the bench to replace Tony Popovic.
Kewell was a constant menace to the Uruguayans as he created a number of opportunities for his team-mates following impressive runs down the left hand side.

Neither side could win the tie over the 90 minutes or in extra time but the home side emerged victorious from the drama of the penalty competition to book their place in Germany next summer.
