Houllier's cash benefit Aug 19 2005 By David Prentice, Liverpool Echo LIVERPOOL put a £7m price tag on Milan Baros' head; so Gerard Houllier is immediately planning an £8.5m bid. Good to see...

An idiotic decision. If Pool win it, so what? Another meaningless FIFA trophy, created simply to make money. " Rule the world" is a joke and a pretty empty boast for whichever team wins it when it is so nonensical. Meeting a side from Oz or Costa Rica in the first game of the decider says it all doesn't it?

I am amazed. There should be just three objectives for the management and team. 1. To do better in the major prize by getting into the top 3 of the Prem. 2. To continue to go forward in Europe 3. To have a good run in the FA Cup to give the fans and club a trophy in case the first two fall short.

This is enough for any side, some would argue that it is already too much, but to cart the team off to the other side of the world for this pointless event at this vital and busy stage of our season is truly unprofessional and short sighted.

Liverpool's ridiculous decision also gives this event more credibility than it deserves. Far better if it were ignored and left to wither and die through lack of participation.

We do not know how much Benitez really wants this or if he is simply backing a board decision? If he is as enthusiastic as he sounds he just confirms the doubts I have about just how good he really is. December for god sake! How many points might this cost? What injuries? I wait for the familiar excuses of tired players and injuries after such an early start to a long season if things go pear shaped later.

A decision based on greed and one which cannot help the sides most important objectives. Stupid beyond words.
