Yes, and the three pts are vital. But form has to be related to opponents and Fulham are a push over away from home right now. 3pts and no wins from a possible 48pts says it all. Any plan would have been good enough last night.
Even so, playing Fowler from the start has to be a step in the right direction. He has looked sharp enough to give the side an hour for weeks ,and the options have not been very effective. He should have played simply because of what he has shown in those brief appearances, not for any sentimental reasons. Offside? Onside? whets the difference? Fact is, he can still put the ball in the net. No idea how it will work in the long run, but who would dispute that he should have been starting before now?
At the risk of, once again, being told I am being unfair to the manager, he does seem slow to see the obvious for a "tactical genius". Have to give him credit for getting the defence so tight, an essential first step, but his striker purchases ( I wouldn't ask him to do my Sainsbury's shopping) and the use of them are a bit suspect.
Start with Fowler. Play Gerrard central always. A combination which might have kept Pool in the CL.
